Heartbreak is tangled — a poem
It’s 6am
And it’s autumn again
A year approaches
Since the ending of lives
Since the ending of the life
I held onto with fingertips
Thinking it would change things
I poured heartbreak into one vessel
While he lay dying
And we lay dying
And I gifted it back to the universe
A final wish
To take all the pain in one go.
When his energy became the world again
But it’s true
What they say
That there’s so way out other than through
So it’s been through
And through
And while the forest still looks
Busy with trees
My feet are finding routes
Walked by millions before me
And I can see them all
In a field beyond
Sunlight and warmth
And love and comfort
And I’m taking my time
Because the forest is also beautiful
Resting against trees
Palms on oak
Cheek on bark
Smelling the Earth I’ve yet to place one love into
Feeling autumn air on my skin
The way another’s hands used to feel
Heartbreak is tangled
But I am not
And it’ll work it’s way out
Eventually.
